The New York Times Grovels for the Right Wing, and Other Despicable Media Moments This Week

This article by blogger Adam Johnson writing for Fair, starts with "Disaster Porn" as a label on mainstream news of hurricane Harvey.  This points to the criticism of marriage of news to ratings and money -- Porn sells better than that old tiresome story about climate change.  Mainstream also shows it editorial opinion colors with reporting that draws equivalence of fascists and antifa:
...drawing equivalences between antifa and fascists helps provide the propaganda scaffolding for the Trump administration's recent categorization of antifa as a “terrorist” group.
In any case in the context of the crisis of journalism, crass commercialism has led us here and mechanisms to separate news reporting from business must also be found.  In the past this was an obligation of television and radio licensees and not newspapers but in this commercial age a remedy must be found.
